The Shire of Gingin were looking to close vehicular access to the Edwards Island Point for good at today’s (20/10/2020) monthly shire meeting.

However, following a passionate presentation from LDCA member and local Lancelin resident, Tim Dawson and on the back of overwhelming public support for keeping the point open to cars, councillors today amended that motion.

In short, the beach will remain open to traffic from September to April which is when demand is at its peak and the beach is more accessible.

In the end, all voted in favour of the amendment except one of the local Lancelin councillors, Jan Court, who voted to close the beach.

This is a positive step forward for the town and those who pushed hard to retain access should feel proud of their efforts.
