The main road from Perth to Lancelin is the Indian Ocean Drive.  The road is mainly 2 lanes, with a number of 1.5km-long overtaking lanes along the way. In 2017 and 2018, the road proved deadly with a number of head-on collisions both north and south of Lancelin.

After a number of crashes south of the town in 2017, the government reduced the speed limit from 110km/h to 100km/h on that section of road and brought forward the addition of 4 new overtaking sections south of the turnoff to Lancelin. The road along those sections now features a wider “no man’s land” (1 metre) between north- and south-bound traffic and rumble strips, as can be seen below. If you’re heading to town you should respect the road and obey the signage.  We want you here in one piece.
