It’s been some time since you could take an extended dunes tour out of Lancelin on a 4WD bus but if a school holiday trial goes well these tours will be a regular feature on our iconic dunes.
At present a 24-seat, airconditioned bus is operating from the dunes car park with an introductory rate of $40/adult, $30 per child (must be between 5 – 12 years of age) and $120 for a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children). The new venture has shire approval and the operators, who’ve run off-road tours in Mandurah before, have all required insurances and have gone to great lengths to ensure the experience will be a safe one.
During the 45-minute tour you will get to explore much of the dunes and while it’s not an extreme adventure it is certainly more than a pleasant amble. All passengers are required to wear seat belts and pregnant women and those with back problems need to be aware that the ride will be bumpy at times. Children under 5 are not permitted to ride.
If things go well, the 24-seat bus will be replaced by a 33-seater and importantly, you can book tours for the hourly departures via this website like you can do now with sandboards.
Until then, just head to the car park at the sand dunes and look for the bus. Departures are on the hour from 9am to 5pm.
